Barn Quilts of Kankakee

Kankakee County is being covered with barn quilts! Join Rhonda and Jerry Legan on Tuesday, October 26th, at 6:30 PM for a slide and video presentation highlighting the construction and installation of the Kankakee County Barn Quilts. They will share locations, photos, quilt block information, and barn/farm/family history. Central Citizens' Library District is a handicap accessible facility. Scare Up a Good Book!

Welcome to summer reading at Central Citizens' Library! It's time to register for Scare Up a Good Book. Participants will be asked to read for a total of 360 minutes and attend at least three out of the four weeks. This will qualify you for a trip to the Field Museum in Chicago on Tuesday, July 6th. Children of all ages are welcome to join us. You must have a valid CCLD library card in order to participate.

We are offering four sessions for children who have finished grade five and younger: Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, Wednesdays at 10:00 AM, Thursdays at 10:00 AM, and Thursdays at 6:30 PM. Those who have finished sixth grade and older attend the TWEEN group on Wednesdays at 2:00 PM. If you have conflicts, you can always attend a different session for that week. Call the library at 694-2800 for more information.

Central Citizens' Library District is one of 4,000 libraries across the country selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA) to receive free hardcover editions of 17 classic books as part of the We the People Bookshelf grant program. The theme of this year’s Bookshelf is “A More Perfect Union.”
The We the People Bookshelf on “A More Perfect Union” contains the following books:

The award is part of the NEH’s We the People initiative, which supports projects that strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture. Selected public and school libraries in all 50 states each will receive a set of the 17 books, bonus materials including a DVD edition of “The Civil War,” the award-winning documentary by Ken Burns, posters, bookmarks, bookplates from the NEH and the ALA, and access to online planning and promotional materials. Since 2003, NEH and ALA havae distributed 17,000 We the People Bookshelf grants to school and public libraries across the country.

CCLD Coloring Contest

CCLD COLORING CONTEST WINNERS

The Central Citizens’ Library District board members selected winners of the sixteenth annual Christmas Coloring Contest following their monthly meeting December 17th. The contest picture was drawn by Abby Rosenboom and was decorated by dozens of children and adults. All winners received gift cards from Barnes and Noble. The winning entries will be on display at CCLD. The winners are:

Pre-K/Kindergarten and Younger: 1st prize to Marshall Meyer; 2nd prize to Jayce Meier; 3rd prize to Giacomo Panozzo.

First, Second, and Third Grades: 1st prize to Riley Thompson; 2nd prize to Reagan Panozzo; 3rd prize to Topanga Powell.

Summer Reading Program 2009!

Read on the Wild side with CCLD! It is time once again to register for Summer Reading. Registration forms are available at the library. We are asking participants to read for a total of 360 minutes and attend at least three out of the four sessions. This will qualify you for the end of the program trip. You must have a valid CCLD card to participate.

We are offering four sessions for children who have finished grade 5 and younger:

Tuesdays @ 10:00A.M. (begins June 9)

Wednesdays @ 10:00 A.M. (begins June10)

Thursdays @ 10:00 A.M. and also @ 6:30 P.M. (begins June11)

We also offer a TWEENS group for students who have completed 6th grade:

Wednesdays @ 2:00 P.M.

We will kick off our Summer Reading Program with a presentation in our auditorium on Tuesday June 9th at 11:00 A.M. Jim Nisci will present "Cold Blooded Creatures!" to all ages.
